I have been listening to this little guy's happy humming for a couple of weeks now, through my open dining room window.
This morning, there were at least three zipping along between the dark pink blooms at the corner of the house and the white blossoms near the front door.
After the mail came, I decided to try to catch one of them in action.
They're quite fast, considering they shouldn't even be able to fly!
What little miracles they are!
See his huge black body, there on the left, as he snuggless in close to the petals to grab the pollen?
I made the mistake of having the camera too close as I tried for another shot -
off he flew, in a huff!
No doubt he has gone home to his hive in the yard of Robin, the chicken lady.
She's one of the two who have the pumpkin-carving parties that I look forward to each fall.
She and Harry have had chickens in their back yard for a number of years now, with a recent addition of the bees.
Oh, there's a joke about chickens!
Why does a chicken coop have only two doors?

Because with four doors, it'd be a sedan!
Hahahaha!
She really got a kick out of that one!
Plus, it was one she could share with her grandkids!

Well, shoot!
When I met Smitty to catch up his sales taxes, I mentioned that I'd been feeding Robin's bees.
"They sure had to travel a long way," he said.
"Oh, four miles is not a big deal to a bee," I replied.
He had smiled, that joking grin he has, and told me,"The bees aren't at her house. They're out by her pond."
Whups!
I guess I've been feeding someone else's bees!
