In the past few days, most of the entertainment this month has been canceled.
No St. Patrick's Day Parade.
No more improv, including the Odd Lot shows.
No 31st Savannah Music Festival.
No events at the Lucas Theatre.
No exhibits at museums to peruse.
No more kids being DEEP.
No peacock writers at the Flannery O'Connor Childhood Home.
No Magic Rocks for dancing feet.
No out of the ordinary movies, courtesy of PFS.
No more musicals or plays from local thespian troupes.
Not even a sermon to attend at Asbury Memorial UM Church.
That's just here in town.
The same is true all over the USA, all over North America, all over the world.
At least it isn't yet baseball season for the Savannah Bananas.
That entertainment activity should be safe, as the COVID-19 organism becomes inactive on surfaces that are at least 85 °F.
Hopefully, the other activities will return to operation sometime in April, at least for those of us at this latitude.
Folks up north will have a longer haul before their life gets enriched by opportunities outside their homes.
Does that mean they could travel here and re-introduce the deadly strain of SARS-COV-2 to those of us in Georgia and other southern states?
That's something to consider, especially as the weather warms and people turn to air conditioning - and thermostats set at 72 °F, if not cooler - reinstating an indoor environment where the virus can again thrive.
Definitely something to consider on this Ides of March, when the thing that could betray us is our insistence on comfort above all else.
