full dance cards, thrice!

First, and foremost, let me make it absolutely clear that it's not been for lack of trying on my part. The two local movie cinemas have simply had a dearth of new movies to tempt me since 2021 began. Although I am certainly willing to see the same movie multiple times, I'd prefer to have at least two weekends between repeat screenings.
Second, the weather definitely has played a role, as I am more likely to stay home when it's freezing outside. I am especially more likely to do so if there is nothing new on the silver screen to tempt my visual palate.
Third, there have been multiple occasions when I have ventured to Hinesville to join my first niece and her daughters for kid-friendly - and wallet-friendly - family outings. Termed "Fan Favorites", the movies are priced at only $5 per person, a viewing choice which has been sadly lacking here in the Savannah cinemas. These out of town outings do, however, supplant a viewing day here, as the cinemas are only open on Fridays and weekends.
When all three factors are combined, I have only filled my dance card four times this year.
The first time was that first weekend in January.
Because I have the AMC A*List membership, I definitely try to maximize its benefits for me.
To make the cost of it beneficial, I have to be sure to see at least three movies per month.
(That's because I'm a senior and have cheaper ticket prices. Otherwise, I would only need to see two post-5 PM movies to offset the membership fee.)
The A*List allows a whopping maximum of twelve movies per month before I would need to pay for one... but it's been a while since I even came close to that threshold.
To do so would require me to go to at least three movies per weekend (not including those more-pricey Fathom events, which are excluded from the program).
So, in January, I had one weekend that was full.
That was one weekend out of five.
That's not good, but it did offset my membership fee.

February was better!
For Valentine's weekend, I finally had a full dance card, as well as Carolyn's company at each movie!
Not only did we have the three movies shown here, there was also "Pretty In Pink" from Fathom, with nice little tidbits about the actors and the making of that film.
Delightful!
Even more so as two of the movies were brand new!!!
Two weeks later, my dance card was again full, but with a difference.
"Tom and Jerry" was the only new movie at the cinema.
So, as I do, I made this a Kids Movie Festival and Carolyn joined me for the next two films!
We both especially loved seeing Chris Pratt again in "Jurassic World", which was there as a rare Fan Favorite.
It was billed as "sensory friendly", but we laughed at that!
Keeping the lights on and reducing the volume were still not enough to decrease the fear factor for that one!
Then, I opted for a third viewing of "The Croods: A New Age" and she joined me, as she had not seen it.
She loved it, laughing and laughing at the silliness!
I laughed and laughed, too!
That's the only movie that I've seen with different loved ones each of the three times that I've watched it.
The first was with Michael and the twins; the second was with Christina and her family of five.
And I have enjoyed it more each time, I do believe!
That's a rare distinction for a movie in my viewing repertoire.
Maybe I need more kid movies!
(smile!)
And now, for the second weekend in a row and the first weekend in March, I have again filled my A*List dance card!
"Chaos Walking" was pretty good, especially with the non-PC thoughts by the males.
"Boogie", on the other hand, had terrible use of the male non-PC chatter and was an awful mess of a movie, as vouchsafed by the two other women in the screening room.
Ack, what a terrible taste left in the mouth - I would expect better from its chef writer-director.
As for "Raya and the Last Dragon", I very much liked this latest Disney film and hope to see it in the near future with some of my great-nieces.
The dragon does not look quite as I would have liked, but I'm sure it will succeed as a new fluffy toy in Easter baskets.
Great message, strong female characters - both good and bad - and an entertaining cast of characters make this a story I'll be glad to share!
Now, let's hope the flow of new films continues at the cinemas!
It has done my heart good to see other cars in their parking lots!

Oh, one last thought!
In the closing credits, Disney Studios listed something that makes this an even more remarkable movie
IT WAS COMPLETED BY ARTISTS WORKING IN 400 HOMES, NOT ALL GATHERED TOGETHER AT A SINGLE LOCATION.
Wow.
Yes, I will definitely look forward to seeing it - and crying at one of the final scenes - again!
Nice to know that Hunter's cousin had cried at that same time when he'd taken her to see it on Friday.
