The woman must have been a gypsy at heart, as was my dear Mama, as is my dear Christina Ann.
Granny White died in her 90's, while I was still a teen.
I think the year was 1975, but I just may need to take a trip to the Thomas Cemetery in Waycross to confirm it.
That might be a nice day trip in the next month or so.
As I was saying, Granny White loved jewelry and owned quite a few pieces.
I still have several others, which I will doubtless bestow upon my first niece soon, if she likes this one.
So, why did I choose this as the first for her?
First and foremost, the embroidered blue and white wings remind me of Mama's many pieces of needlework and I think Christina will also catch that.
Second, this brooch is in the best condition of the pieces I have, with no missing stones or damage to the giltwork.
Third, the inscription on the back is in German.
Sure, it's just the mark to let the wearer know of its copyright in Austria... but my niece's beau of four years is from Germany and might well get a kick out of her now owning a piece of jewelry that someone in her family had bought in Austria.
Christina did so much for my birthday62.
I hope this pin will let her know how much I treasure her, now, then, always.
i thank You, God.

Not only did she like it... she liked that it was from Granny White!
I had not known that her daddy - my middle brother Ronnie - had shared so many tales of our maternal great-grandmother with his one-and-only daughter!
Mostly, what she recalled was the Granny White was a witch.
LOL!
She may well have been, but I don't remember that.
I remember visiting her in her apartment in a retirement community, but I don't recall where that was.
I remember making a lap rug for her, as well as making a needlepoint Christmas decoration, which now goes on my front door every year.

I think I will definitely give her the rest of Granny White's pieces of jewelry.
It may all be costume jewelry, but it should belong to someone who will wear them and enjoy them.
(smile)
I had not mentioned that I had located another of the pins on a site that sold old jewelry.
It had the butterfly priced at $42.
I wonder if it will have the other pieces?

LOL!
While searching for a post on Sean Connery, I stumbled upon the one for my "finding" the pin in my jewelry box.

Notice: that was in November.
My intention had been to give the pin to her for Christmas.
LOL!
